Elche is an industrial town, and that changes what is possible. Three-phase supply is common here in a way it is not on the coast.

That makes 11 kW and 22 kW charging a real option rather than something you pay for and never use.

Why three-phase matters, and when it does not

Charging above 7.4 kW requires a three-phase supply. In most of the area we cover that ends the conversation, because ordinary Spanish homes are single phase. In Elche it often does not, because workshops, warehouses, converted ground-floor premises and some newer developments already have three phase on site.

Where it exists, 11 kW is the sensible step. It roughly halves a charging session compared with 7.4 kW and is well within what a typical three-phase supply can give alongside the rest of a small commercial load. It is the option that most often makes sense for someone charging at their business rather than overnight at home.

22 kW is a different proposition and is worth more scepticism. The constraint is almost never the wallbox: it is the car. A great many electric vehicles accept a maximum of 7.4 kW or 11 kW on alternating current, and connecting one of those to a 22 kW point produces exactly the same charging speed as the cheaper unit. We ask which vehicle before recommending anything, and we will tell you when the extra capacity would do nothing.

The other Elche-specific check is phase balance. Where a unit has grown over years, additions tend to have been made on whichever phase was nearest, and a charger drawing hard on an already-loaded phase produces nuisance tripping that looks like a charger fault and is not. Measuring the three phases under real load before installing avoids that entirely.

Common questions

Can I really get 22 kW charging at my unit in Elche?

If the premises has three-phase supply with the capacity to spare, the installation is possible. Whether it is useful depends on your car: many electric vehicles accept at most 7.4 or 11 kW on AC, and with one of those a 22 kW point charges no faster than a cheaper one.

Will a charger upset the rest of my workshop?

It should not, but it is worth measuring first. If the existing installation is already unbalanced across the three phases, adding a substantial new load to the busiest one produces tripping that gets blamed on the charger. We measure under real load before choosing where to connect.
