Two kinds of weather damage, and why they present differently

Villajoyosa gets hit from two directions, and the resulting emergencies look nothing like each other. On the front, it is salt: the same slow corrosion of terminals and outdoor equipment that affects the whole coast, concentrated here because the old town sits directly against the water with no buffer at all.

Above the town it is water rather than salt. The urbanisations sit on sloping ground, and when the autumn storms come the runoff has to go somewhere. It finds chambers, junction boxes, meter cabinets at plot boundaries and any buried cable whose protection was inadequate, and it does it fast. Where the coastal failure mode is gradual, this one is sudden: everything works, a storm passes, and several circuits are out at once.

The practical difference matters when you call us. A salt-driven failure is usually one circuit or one appliance, with visible discolouration at a terminal, and it can often wait until morning. A post-storm failure affecting several circuits at once means water has reached something it should not have, and that is a case where we would rather come and isolate than have you keep resetting a device.

Whichever it is, do not reset repeatedly and do not investigate a wet installation yourself. Water and electricity together are the one combination where the sensible response is to leave it alone and let somebody test it before anything is re-energised.
